Read about this class:
In a powerful session for GoldCare, Dr. John Montalvo reminded us of our calling as healers and truth-tellers in a world that desperately needs both. Drawing inspiration from Isaiah 61—the same passage Jesus read in the Nazareth synagogue—Dr. Montalvo explained how this scripture not only foretold the coming of the Messiah but also defined our mission today.
Dr. Montalvo began by reflecting on his lifelong love for the book of Isaiah. He recalled how Isaiah 61 declares:
"The spirit of the Lord Yahweh is upon me, because Yahweh has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted; to bind up the brokenhearted; to proclaim release to captives, and freedom to prisoners; to proclaim the favorable year of Yahweh, and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn."
He noted that this passage—spoken by Jesus in a Nazareth synagogue—was so revolutionary that it stirred controversy and nearly cost Him His life. For believers, these words serve as a powerful reminder that we are commissioned to bring hope and healing to those who suffer.
Dr. Montalvo emphasized that while we work in the field of healing, it is God who is the ultimate healer. Our role is not to fix every broken piece ourselves but to guide people toward the truth of God’s design for healing. Whether it’s healing the mind, body, or spirit, our responsibility is to help others understand that:
As Dr. Montalvo put it, “Know the truth and it shall set you free.” This truth, however, has come at a great personal cost for many. He acknowledged that his own journey has cost him family, friends, and even his profession—but through it all, he found freedom in Christ.
Dr. Montalvo reminded the GoldCare community that salvation and freedom are not distant promises but present realities. He shared his personal struggle of working out his salvation with “fear and trembling,” and how that process led him to experience true freedom in Christ. He passionately declared:
A recurring theme in the class was the tension between the traditional medical paradigm and the deeper healing available through God’s truth. Dr. Montalvo challenged us to look beyond modern medicine’s limitations:
Dr. Montalvo encouraged a spirit of openness within the GoldCare family. He invited everyone—whether a physician, health coach, or patient—to share their experiences and struggles. In doing so, he fostered a community where:
Dr. John Montalvo’s class for GoldCare was a heartfelt call to proclaim the truth, embrace the healing power of God, and live in the freedom that comes from following Jesus. By reflecting on Isaiah 61, he reminded us that we are not only healers in our professional roles but also ambassadors of God’s liberating truth.
As we continue on our journey, let us remember that even when the cost is high, the freedom and healing available in the Lord are worth every sacrifice. May we stand boldly, share our truth with compassion, and always trust that God is our ultimate healer and source of freedom.
